Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 2) ➊ { ذِكْرُرَحْمَتِرَبِّكَعَبْدَهٗزَكَرِيَّا :} Here, {’’هٰذَا‘‘} is omitted, meaning this is the mention of your Lord’s mercy upon His servant Zakariya. By mercy here is meant the acceptance of Zakariya (peace be upon him)’s supplication and granting him a son of great status like Yahya (peace be upon him) despite his extreme old age and his wife being barren. ➋ It is narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: [ كَانَزَكَرِيَّاءُنَجَّارًا ][ مسلم، الفضائل، باب من فضائل زکریا علیہ السلام: ۲۳۷۹ ] “Zakariya (peace be upon him) was a carpenter.” From this it is understood that, like Dawud (peace be upon him), he used to eat from what he earned with his own hands. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: [ مَاأَكَلَأَحَدٌطَعَامًاقَطُّخَيْرًامِنْأَنْيَّأْكُلَمِنْعَمَلِيَدِهِوَإِنَّنَبِيَّاللّٰهِدَاوٗدَعَلَيْهِالسَّلاَمُكَانَيَأْكُلُمِنْعَمَلِيَدِهِ ][ بخاري، البیوع، باب کسب الرجل و عملہ بیدہ : ۲۰۷۲، عن المقدام رضی اللہ عنہ ] “No one has ever eaten better food than that which he earned with his own hands, and Allah’s Prophet Dawud (peace be upon him) used to eat from what he earned with his own hands.”
