But when they reached the junction of the two seas, they forgot their fish, and it took its way through the sea as in a tunnel.

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 61) ➊ { فِي الْبَحْرِ سَرَبًا :} A fish cannot stay alive outside of water, so it is understood that the fish was dead. Then, if it is not salted and dried, it becomes extremely foul-smelling and filled with worms. It is understood that it was salted and dried. The coming to life of this dead fish was a miracle.

➋ Making the water take the shape of mountains for Musa (peace be upon him) (Ash-Shu'ara: 63) or like a tunnel, this is the power of Allah Almighty and a divine miracle. Just as the shaping of a human being in the best form from a drop of water (semen) is a minor manifestation of the power of this All-Knowing Creator.
