And We send not the Messengers except as givers of glad tidings and warners. But those who disbelieve, dispute with false argument, in order to refute the truth thereby. And they treat My Ayât (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), and that with which they are warned, as a jest and mockery!

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

:} That is, the task of the messengers is to give glad tidings and to warn; bringing punishment or not is not within their authority. And the disbelievers, by arguing with falsehood, want to defeat the truth, for example, by saying: "If you are a messenger, then turn Mount Safa into gold," etc. However, this is neither the task of the messenger nor within his authority. In several other places it is stated that the wish of the disbelievers will never be fulfilled, nor can the light of Allah be extinguished by their blowing. See Tawbah (32) and Shura (16).
:} Making a mockery of Allah's signs and His messengers is the worst form of denial.
