وَأَوْفُوا۟ ٱلْكَيْلَ إِذَا كِلْتُمْ وَزِنُوا۟ بِٱلْقِسْطَاسِ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمِ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ وَأَحْسَنُ تَأْوِيلًا ﴿35﴾
And give full measure when you measure, and weigh with a balance that is straight. That is good (advantageous) and better in the end.
وَأَوْفُوا۟ wa-awfū And give full
ٱلْكَيْلَ l-kayla [the] measure
إِذَا idhā when
كِلْتُمْ kil'tum you measure
وَزِنُوا۟ wazinū and weigh
بِٱلْقِسْطَاسِ bil-qis'ṭāsi with the balance
ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمِ ۚ l-mus'taqīmi the straight
ذَٰلِكَ dhālika That
خَيْرٌۭ khayrun (is) good
وَأَحْسَنُ wa-aḥsanu and best
تَأْوِيلًۭا tawīlan (in) result

(Ayah 35) By {وَ اَوْفُوا الْكَيْلَ اِذَا كِلْتُمْ … : ’’ الْكَيْلَ ‘‘} is meant measuring grain or other items by making a vessel, etc., a standard of measurement, for example, Sa‘ (Toopa) and Mudd (Paropi), etc. The meaning of weighing is to weigh, for example, kilo, etc. {’’اَلْقِسْطَاسُ‘‘} means scales. Mujahid said, in Roman, Qistas means justice. {’’تَاْوِيْلًا ‘‘} (end result) is derived from {’’أَوْلٌ‘‘}, which means to return, that is, the outcome to which a matter returns; interpretation is also called Ta’wil, and the real meaning and intent of something as well. In terms of the end result, it is better because due to full measure and weight, everyone’s trust will be established, there will be blessing and progress in his business, and this person will be safe from disgrace on the Day of Judgment and from people’s demands for their rights.
