And when those who associated partners with Allâh see their (Allâh’s so-called) partners, they will say: "Our Lord! These are our partners whom we used to invoke besides you." But they will throw back their word at them (and say): "Surely! You indeed are liars!"

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah86){وَ اِذَا رَاَ الَّذِيْنَ اَشْرَكُوْا … :} When the disbelievers will see those partners whom they used to call upon for help and associate with Allah, or whose idols or graves they used to worship and prostrate to and circumambulate, as mentioned in Sahih Bukhari (4288) that the polytheists of Makkah had placed idols of Ibrahim and Ismail (peace be upon them) inside the Ka'bah. On the Day of Resurrection, the polytheists will see these elders, so in order to lighten their own crime and to make their self-made patrons and helpers partners in this crime, they will say, "Our Lord! These are the ones whom we used to call upon besides You." All of them will immediately say harshly, "Without any doubt, surely you are liars." The meaning of "immediately" is indicated by the "fa" in {’’ فَاَلْقَوْا ‘‘}. The question arises that the polytheists did call upon them, so why will they call them liars? One answer is that whoever calls upon anyone besides Allah, that is, the patron and helper he has made, does not even know that anyone is calling upon him, nor do they hear their calling, so if they do not call them liars, what else should they call them? See Surah Fatir (13, 14) and Surah Ahqaf (5, 6). Secondly, there is no partner of Allah present anywhere; every polytheist, whether idol-worshipper or grave-worshipper, saint-worshipper or prophet-worshipper, merely calls upon his imaginary self-made fulfillers of needs and removers of difficulties; in reality, they have no existence anywhere, so those prophets and saints and their self-made patrons and helpers will clearly call them liars, saying, "You did not call upon us, but rather upon your own imagination and assumption, which you used to call upon and worship." See Surah Yunus (66) and Surah Najm (23). As for Satan, he really did invite them to shirk, but he will, with utmost shamelessness, completely disown them. See Surah Ibrahim (22).
