Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
The meaning of (Ayah 60){لِلَّذِيْنَلَايُؤْمِنُوْنَبِالْاٰخِرَةِمَثَلُالسَّوْءِ … : ’’ مَثَلُ ‘‘} is also something similar to another thing, a proverb, that is, a saying, and also an attribute and a state. Here, most commentators have taken it in the sense of attribute, that is, those polytheists who were mentioned above, due to their lack of faith in the Hereafter, accountability, and reward and punishment, their condition is very bad, which is an extreme example of reprehensibility. For this reason, they have become so foolish and hard-hearted that they allocate a portion of their income for their imaginary gods, look upon daughters with utmost contempt, and bury them alive, even though in old age and weakness they are dependent on them. They take pride in the birth of sons for themselves and ascribe daughters to Allah instead of sons. They worship angels and call them the daughters of Allah. This is the result of being deceived by this short-lived life and not believing in the Hereafter. If they had certainty of being presented before Allah and of the never-ending life of the Hereafter, they would not dare to commit even one of these acts of oppression. And Allah’s attribute is the highest of all; nothing is like Him, He is One, Unique, free from children and parents. Only He is worthy of all attributes of perfection, beauty, and majesty, and He alone is dominant over all, He is Mighty, but also Wise to the highest degree; He exercises His dominance not like a blind man’s stick, but with utmost wisdom.
