Surah An-Nahl (16) — Ayah 56

وَيَجْعَلُونَ لِمَا لَا يَعْلَمُونَ نَصِيبًا مِّمَّا رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ ۗ تَٱللَّهِ لَتُسْـَٔلُنَّ عَمَّا كُنتُمْ تَفْتَرُونَ ﴿56﴾
And they assign a portion of that which We have provided them unto what they know not (false deities). By Allâh, you shall certainly be questioned about (all) that you used to fabricate.
وَيَجْعَلُونَ wayajʿalūna And they assign
لِمَا limā to what

مِّمَّا mimmā of what

(Ayah56) {وَ يَجْعَلُوْنَ لِمَا لَا يَعْلَمُوْنَ …:’’ لَا يَعْلَمُوْنَ ‘‘ } can have two meanings, and both are intended. One is that these polytheists assign a portion of the sustenance We have provided to those gods who know nothing at all, because only Allah is the Knower of the unseen and the seen. The second meaning is that they assign it to those about whom they have no knowledge. Neither do they know their reality nor their powerlessness; merely based on conjecture and hearsay, they dedicate what We have given them in their names. See Surah Al-An'am (36 to 38) and Surah Yunus (66). In the beginning of the verse, after mentioning these polytheists entirely in the third person, at the end (as a rhetorical shift), they are directly addressed to rebuke them and, swearing an oath, it is said: By My oath, you will surely be questioned about all the fabrications you have been inventing.
