Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah105) ➊ {اِنَّمَا يَفْتَرِي الْكَذِبَ …:} The statement of the disbelievers which was mentioned above in Ayah (101) {’’ اِنَّمَاۤ اَنْتَ مُفْتَرٍ ‘‘} (So you are the one who fabricates it) — this is its refutation: that lying is the habit of those who do not believe, because they do not fear Allah. Whoever fears Allah does not lie. As for the Prophet, he is the leader of the believers, and it is absolutely impossible for him to attribute even a single word of falsehood to Allah Almighty.

➋ By { وَ اُولٰٓىِٕكَ هُمُ الْكٰذِبُوْنَ : ’’ اُولٰٓىِٕكَ ‘‘} is meant those who do not believe in Allah, that is, lying is their habit, because they are deprived of faith, which is what restrains a person from sin.

➌ It is narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: [ آيَةُ الْمُنَافِقِ ثَلَاثٌ إِذَا حَدَّثَ كَذَبَ وَ إِذَا وَعَدَ أَخْلَفَ وَ إِذَا ائْتُمِنَ خَانَ ] [ بخاری، الإیمان، باب علامات المنافق : ۳۳ ] “The signs of a hypocrite are three: when he speaks, he lies; when he makes a promise, he breaks it; and when something is entrusted to him, he betrays the trust.”

Shaykh Abdul Rahman Mu’allimi has written in {’’ التنكيل‘‘} that if one reflects, the basis of all three signs of a hypocrite is lying, because breaking a promise is blameworthy only when, at the time of making the promise, he does not intend to fulfill it. If, at the time of making the promise, he intends to fulfill it, but then is unable to do so due to some excuse, then there is no blame on him. And betrayal of trust cannot occur unless he lies.
