Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah88) ➊ {لَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَيْنَيْكَ اِلٰى مَا مَتَّعْنَا بِهٖۤ اَزْوَاجًا مِّنْهُمْ:’’ مَتَّعْنَا ‘‘} Ordinary and temporary means of enjoyment. {’’اَزْوَاجًا ‘‘} "Zauj" means a kind or type, for example, each of male and female is a "zauj"; when both are together, it is called {’’ زَوْجَانِ ‘‘} (a pair). There are many types of these pairs, such as capitalists, rulers, soldiers, landlords, factory owners, religious leaders, etc. That is, while possessing the wealth of Sab‘ al-Mathani and the Great Qur’an, you should never even glance towards those disbelievers who possess various kinds of worldly blessings, especially when those blessings are a trial and punishment for them. See the commentary of Surah Tawbah (55) and Surah Ta-Ha (130 to 132).

{وَ لَا تَحْزَنْ عَلَيْهِمْ :} If their great chiefs, leaders of disbelief, and their followers do not believe, then do not grieve over their not believing and their going to Hell. You have conveyed the message and fulfilled your duty, so what is the need for grief?

{وَ اخْفِضْ جَنَاحَكَ لِلْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ۠ : ’’ جَنَاحٌ‘‘} Arm, wing, side. This is actually a metaphor: just as a bird gathers its young under its wings and tries to protect them from heat and cold, in the same way, you should lower your arm or side for the believers, meaning to show them gentleness, compassion, love, and protection. This was the very quality of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), as He said: «{ اَشِدَّآءُ عَلَى الْكُفَّارِ رُحَمَآءُ بَیْنَھُمْ [ الفتح : ۲۹ ] "They are severe against the disbelievers, and merciful among themselves."
