Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah29) ➊ {فَاِذَاسَوَّيْتُهٗ …:} means when I have fashioned him, completed him. {’’ مِنْرُّوْحِيْ ‘‘} and have breathed into him from My spirit. Here, in {’’ رُوْحِيْ ‘‘}, the attribution of the “ya” in {’’رُوْحٌ‘‘} is called an attribution of honor, meaning that to increase its dignity and honor, it was called “My spirit.” Here, “My spirit” refers to a spirit created by Allah, because nothing is like His essence; He is {’’ لَمْيَلِدْوَلَمْيُوْلَدْ ‘‘}, so Allah’s personal spirit can in no way be meant. Not only Adam, but elsewhere, the spirit of every human has been called Allah’s spirit; He said: «{ ثُمَّسَوّٰىهُوَنَفَخَفِيْهِمِنْرُّوْحِهٖ }»[ دیکھیے السجدۃ : ۷ تا ۹ ] and it is obvious that man is a creation. This is just like all the earth and everything in it belongs to Allah, but the Sacred Mosque is called the House of Allah (Allah’s house), and the she-camel of Salih (peace be upon him) is called Allah’s she-camel. ➋ For the detailed exegesis from this verse to verse (39), see the commentary in Surah Al-A’raf (11 to 18) and Surah Al-Baqarah (30 to 34).
