Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
Regarding the pronoun in {’’ هٗ ‘‘} in {كَذٰلِكَنَسْلُكُهٗفِيْقُلُوْبِالْمُجْرِمِيْنَ …: ’’ نَسْلُكُهٗ ‘‘} (Ayah13,12), the commentators have mentioned two explanations. Some have said that the pronoun in {’’هٗ‘‘} refers back to {’’ الذِّكْرَ ‘‘}, meaning that We put the reminder into the hearts of the criminals and they listen to it and understand it well, but in such a way that despite understanding it in their hearts, they do not believe in it at all, and this same method has passed among the former people as well, and they were destroyed as a consequence of this. According to the tafsir of Zamakhshari, Razi, and Sayyid Tantawi, the antecedent of the third person pronoun in {’’ نَسْلُكُهٗ ‘‘} and {’’ لَايُؤْمِنُوْنَبِهٖ ‘‘} remains the same. Our teacher Shaykh Muhammad Abduh, may Allah have mercy on him, has also mentioned this tafsir.
The second tafsir is of the Imam of the commentators, Tabari, may Allah have mercy on him, that in {’’ نَسْلُكُهٗ ‘‘} the pronoun in { ’’هٗ ‘‘} refers to "mockery and disbelief," meaning that as a consequence of the crimes of the criminals, We put disbelief and mockery into their hearts, in such a way that they do not believe at all in the reminder sent down by Allah, rather they mock it, and this was also the way of the former people. The result of both tafsirs is to console the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.
