Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah41) {رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لِيْ وَ لِوَالِدَيَّ وَ لِلْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ …:} The prayer for forgiveness for his father was to fulfill the promise he had made to him when leaving home, but when he died upon shirk and there was no hope left for his enmity with Allah to end, he openly disassociated himself from him. (See Tawbah: 114) As for the prayer for his mother, perhaps she had already become a Muslim; Allah Almighty has not mentioned anything in detail about her. The prayer for forgiveness for all believers has been made by the prophets and the people of faith from Nuh (alayhis salam) (Nooh: 28) to our Noble Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) (Bukhari: 7510). (See Hashr: 10)
