Whether We show you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم) part of what We have promised them or cause you to die, your duty is only to convey (the Message) and on Us is the reckoning.

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah40) {وَاِنْمَّانُرِيَنَّكَ … : ’’ مَا ‘‘} is for emphasizing the meaning of the condition, which is the concept of {’’ اِنْ ‘‘}. Therefore, it is translated as "And if ever We really show you." Here, the meaning of {’’ نُرِيَنَّكَ ‘‘} is to show with the eyes, not with the heart or by assumption and imagination. The answers to both {’’ نُرِيَنَّكَ ‘‘} and {’’ اَوْنَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَ۠ ‘‘} mentioned in the condition are omitted, meaning it is not necessary that the punishment given to them in this world is shown to you during your lifetime; it is also possible that the time for their punishment comes after your passing. If We show you some of their worldly punishment with your own eyes, then this will be a source of comfort for you and your companions' hearts and eyes, and if We take you before that, even then you should not worry, because your duty is only to convey the message. As for the reckoning and accountability for their deeds, that is Our responsibility. In this verse, there is an indication that some promises will be fulfilled in your lifetime and some after your passing. A gardener plants plants; some bear fruit in his lifetime and some bear fruit for the generations that come many years later, so you should not be hasty for this, and they should not remain carefree and heedless.
