Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. (Ayah28){اَلَّذِيْنَاٰمَنُوْاوَتَطْمَىِٕنُّقُلُوْبُهُمْ … :} This is the attribute of those who turn to Allah. The meaning of "dhikr" is both admonition and remembrance. In this regard, the verse can have two meanings: one is that Allah guides only those towards Himself who believe, and whose hearts are fully satisfied with the admonition received from divine revelation. Apart from this, they do not find satisfaction anywhere else; no matter how good someone else's words may seem to them, they do not believe in them, because he too is a human like them—his words can be right or wrong, so they do not find contentment in them. Only Allah's word is such that it cannot be wrong, so their hearts find certainty and satisfaction only in it. {’’ذكر الله‘‘} That is, the admonition from Allah was revealed only to the Messenger, both in the form of the Qur'an and in the form of Hadith, and then Allah Himself took the responsibility of its protection. He said: «{اِنَّانَحْنُنَزَّلْنَاالذِّكْرَوَاِنَّالَهٗلَحٰفِظُوْنَ }»[ الحجر : ۹ ] "Indeed, it is We who sent down the admonition, and indeed, We will surely be its guardian." The disbelievers are deprived of this blessing. In summary, the blessing of guidance is given only to the one who turns to Allah for it, believes, and finds complete satisfaction from divine revelation. If a person claims to have faith but finds satisfaction not from the Qur'an and Hadith but from someone else's words, then that unfortunate one is also deprived of divine guidance.
The second meaning of {’’ذكر الله‘‘} is the remembrance of Allah. Maulana Muhammad Abduh (may Allah have mercy on him) writes: "This is a sign of pure and firm faith, that no matter how entangled the mind is in worries, as soon as one starts prayer or remembers Allah, all worries are forgotten and the person becomes blessed with true tranquility of heart." Although both meanings are possible here, the first meaning is more appropriate, because the disbelievers are asking for a sign, while the greatest sign—the Qur'an—is present. The people of faith find satisfaction in it, while the unfortunate disbeliever remains in doubt and keeps demanding more miracles.
