And those who join that which Allâh has commanded to be joined (i.e. they are good to their relatives and do not sever the bond of kinship), and fear their Lord, and dread the terrible reckoning (i.e. abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which Allâh has forbidden and perform all kinds of good deeds which Allâh has ordained).

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. (Ayah21) ➊ {وَالَّذِيْنَيَصِلُوْنَمَاۤاَمَرَاللّٰهُبِهٖۤاَنْيُّوْصَلَ :} That is, they maintain ties of kinship, whether the relatives are close or distant, according to their respective ranks. Or it means that they recognize and fulfill the rights of Allah Almighty, the Noble Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), common Muslims, neighbors, relatives, friends, orphans, widows—in short, everyone. ➋ { وَيَخْشَوْنَرَبَّهُمْ …:} They fulfill the obligations imposed by Him and avoid the sins He has forbidden. Raghib said: “Khashyah is such fear that is accompanied by reverence, and most often its cause is knowledge.” As He said: «{ اِنَّمَايَخْشَىاللّٰهَمِنْعِبَادِهِالْعُلَمٰٓؤُا }»[ فاطر : ۲۸ ] “Only those of His servants fear Allah who have knowledge.” Khawf refers to any kind of fear; some have said both (khashyah and khawf) are synonymous, the difference is mostly in usage, not absolute. (Alusi) ➌ { وَيَخَافُوْنَسُوْٓءَالْحِسَابِ :} Therefore, they keep accounting for themselves even before that time.
