Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah96) ➊ For the details of the difference between the translations of {’’ فَلَمَّاۤ اَنْ جَآءَ الْبَشِيْرُ ‘‘} and {’’فَلَمَّا جَاءَ الْبَشِيْرُ‘‘}, see Benefit (8) in the Translator’s Preface of this same Quran translation. When the bearer of glad tidings arrived, he placed the shirt on the face and gave the good news of Yusuf (peace be upon him) being alive, and immediately the eyes became bright again.

{ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُوْنَ:} Upon the eyes being brightened by Yusuf’s (peace be upon him) shirt and the arrival of the good news of him being alive, he said: «{ اِنِّيْۤ اَعْلَمُ مِنَ اللّٰهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُوْنَ That is, I know from divine revelation things that you do not know. The intention was not to reproach his children, but to train them, so that they may understand the status of prophethood and not attribute the words of a prophet to excessive love or to impaired judgment due to old age, such as the belief that Yusuf (peace be upon him) is alive, that Allah will surely reunite him, or the statement that I sense the fragrance of Yusuf.
