He [Ya‘qûb (Jacob)] said: "Nay, but your ownselves have beguiled you into something. So patience is most fitting (for me). May be Allâh will bring them (back) all to me. Truly He! Only He is All-Knowing, All-Wise."

(Ayah83) ➊ {قَالَبَلْسَوَّلَتْلَكُمْ …:} When, according to the suggestion of the eldest brother, the remaining brothers reached Canaan and related all this to their father Yaqub (peace be upon him), he said that what you are saying is not the real matter, rather your hearts have made a matter attractive for you. Now my task is beautiful patience (sabr jameel). The same words came from his mouth as when he heard the news of Yusuf being eaten by a wolf. How greatly Allah gives courage to His servants, especially the messengers, that even after hearing news that would tear the heart to pieces, there is neither complaint nor protest, nor panic nor wailing. At first, upon the news of one son, there was beautiful patience; now, upon the news of two more sons, again the same beautiful patience. Previously, help was sought only from Allah: «{ وَاللّٰهُالْمُسْتَعَانُعَلٰىمَاتَصِفُوْنَ }»[ یوسف : ۱۸ ] and now, relying on Him, the lamp of hope was kept lit in the heart: «{ عَسَىاللّٰهُاَنْيَّاْتِيَنِيْبِهِمْجَمِيْعًا }» There is hope that Allah will bring all three of them to me; surely He is the All-Knowing, the All-Wise, He knows everything and His wisdom has no limits.
➋ From this, it is understood that even the truthful statement of a liar is not accepted. As for how Yaqub (peace be upon him) was expressing hope for meeting all of them, firstly, he was a prophet of Allah, and secondly, he was certain that the interpretation of Yusuf’s dream would come to pass. However, the separation from his beloved son, then the lack of knowledge about the state of his dear one, the unknown time for the fulfillment of the interpretation, and now the continuous shocks of the loss of two more sons, and the effort to bear all this silently, had a very deep effect on the temperament of Yaqub (peace be upon him).
