Surah Yusuf (12) — Ayah 59

وَلَمَّا جَهَّزَهُم بِجَهَازِهِمْ قَالَ ٱئْتُونِى بِأَخٍ لَّكُم مِّنْ أَبِيكُمْ ۚ أَلَا تَرَوْنَ أَنِّىٓ أُوفِى ٱلْكَيْلَ وَأَنَا۠ خَيْرُ ٱلْمُنزِلِينَ ﴿59﴾
And when he had furnished them with their provisions (according to their need), he said: "Bring me a brother of yours from your father (he meant Benjamin). See you not that I give full measure, and that I am the best of the hosts?
وَلَمَّا walammā And when
جَهَّزَهُم jahhazahum he had furnished them
بِجَهَازِهِمْ bijahāzihim with their supplies
قَالَ qāla he said
ٱئْتُونِى i'tūnī Bring to me
بِأَخٍۢ bi-akhin a brother
لَّكُم lakum of yours
مِّنْ min from
أَبِيكُمْ ۚ abīkum your father
أَلَا alā Do not
تَرَوْنَ tarawna you see
أَنِّىٓ annī that I
أُوفِى ūfī [I] give full
ٱلْكَيْلَ l-kayla [the] measure
وَأَنَا۠ wa-anā and that I am
خَيْرُ khayru (the) best
ٱلْمُنزِلِينَ l-munzilīna (of) the hosts

(Ayah60,59) ➊ {وَ لَمَّا جَهَّزَهُمْ بِجَهَازِهِمْ …: ’’جَهَازٌ‘‘} The provisions which a traveler needs. Yusuf (peace be upon him) said: «{ ائْتُوْنِيْ بِاَخٍ لَّكُمْ He did not say {’’بِأَخِيْكُمْ ‘‘} 'bring your brother' who is from your father, rather he said {’’ بِاَخٍ لَّكُمْ ‘‘}, that is, he kept {’’اَخٌ‘‘} indefinite, so that it would appear to the brothers that the Aziz of Egypt does not know this brother. He was the youngest and the full brother of Yusuf (peace be upon him). His name is commonly known as Binyamin, for which there is no solid evidence, just as the name of the Aziz of Egypt is "Futifar," his wife's name is "Zulaikha" or "Ra‘il," the king's name is "Rayyan bin Walid," and the names of Yusuf's (peace be upon him) other brothers have no proof except for Israelite traditions, which cannot be relied upon. From this request of Yusuf (peace be upon him), it is understood that the brothers themselves mentioned this brother while introducing their family to Yusuf (peace be upon him).

{ اَلَا تَرَوْنَ …:} To call the younger brother, Yusuf (peace be upon him) also mentioned his commercial honesty {’’ اُوْفِي الْكَيْلَ ‘‘} and excellent hospitality, and in the next verse, he even warned that if you do not bring this brother with you, you will neither get grain nor should you hope to meet me. From this, it is understood that Yusuf (peace be upon him) had made excellent arrangements for hospitality, accommodation, and food and drink for all those who came to get grain, and these were his brothers after all.
