سُوْرَةُ يُوسُفَ
Surah Yusuf (12) — Ayah 107
أَفَأَمِنُوٓا۟ أَن تَأْتِيَهُمْ غَـٰشِيَةٌ مِّنْ عَذَابِ ٱللَّهِ أَوْ تَأْتِيَهُمُ ٱلسَّاعَةُ بَغْتَةً وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ ﴿107﴾

Do they then feel secure from the coming against them of the covering veil of the Torment of Allâh, or of the coming against them of the (Final) Hour, all of a sudden while they perceive not?

(Ayah107) ➊ {اَفَاَمِنُوْۤا اَنْ تَاْتِيَهُمْ غَاشِيَةٌ … : ’’غَشِيَ يَغْشٰي غَشْيًا وَ غَشَيَانًا‘‘} To surround from all sides, to cover, as He said: «{ وَ اِذَا غَشِيَهُمْ مَّوْجٌ كَالظُّلَلِ }» [ لقمان : ۳۲ ] "And when a wave like canopies covers them." Ghashiyah is that event which surrounds from all sides. Arabs use such incidents in the feminine form, for example {’’اَلطَّامَّةُ، اَلصَّاخَّةُ، اَلدَّاهِيَةُ، اَلْمُصِيْبَةُ، اَلْكَارِثَةُ، اَلْحَادِثَةُ، اَلْوَاقِعَةُ، اَلْحَآقَّةُ‘‘} In this verse, there is a severe warning for the polytheists that it is not unlikely that at any time a surrounding punishment may come upon them from all sides, such as an earthquake, plague, flood, or storm, etc.
➋ {’’ بَغْتَةً ‘‘ ’’ بَغَتَ ‘‘} (fa) is a verbal noun in the meaning of an active participle indicating a state (haal) ({بَاغِتًا}) suddenly.
