سُوْرَةُ هُوْدٍ
Surah Hud (11) — Ayah 9
وَلَئِنْ أَذَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مِنَّا رَحْمَةً ثُمَّ نَزَعْنَـٰهَا مِنْهُ إِنَّهُۥ لَيَـُٔوسٌ كَفُورٌ ﴿9﴾

And if We give man a taste of Mercy from Us, and then withdraw it from him, verily! he is despairing, ungrateful.

(Ayah 9) {وَ لَىِٕنْ اَذَقْنَا الْاِنْسَانَ مِنَّا رَحْمَةً … :} means that there is this weakness in humans that if, after tasting any mercy—meaning after receiving a little blessing for a short while—it is taken away, then he forgets all of Allah’s blessings in such a way that he becomes extremely hopeless about all His blessings for the future, and he does not even remember any past or present blessing. This is his ingratitude and denial of the blessing. Shawkani has stated that the word {’’ اَذَقْنَا ‘‘} makes it clear that even the smallest blessing, received for even a short period, is being referred to.
