We wronged them not, but they wronged themselves. So their âlihah (gods), other than Allâh, whom they invoked, profited them naught when there came the Command of your Lord, nor did they add aught to them but destruction.

(Ayah 101) ➊ {وَمَاظَلَمْنٰهُمْ …:} That is, in the punishments We sent upon them, We did not wrong them in any way; rather, they themselves wronged their own souls. Their greatest wrongdoing against themselves was associating partners with Allah, and then denying the messengers, for which they were punished. ➋ { فَمَاۤاَغْنَتْعَنْهُمْاٰلِهَتُهُمُالَّتِيْ …:} Then, when Allah’s punishment came, their deities, fulfillers of needs, removers of difficulties, granters of treasures, and helpers could not benefit them in any way; rather, they only became a cause for their destruction and an increase in punishment, because it was due to them that ruin and devastation befell them. {’’ تَتْبِيْبٍ ‘‘} The verb {’’ تَبَّ ‘‘ } (he was destroyed) is from the form “bab taf‘il,” meaning “to destroy.”
