Surah Yunus (10) — Ayah 94

فَإِن كُنتَ فِى شَكٍّ مِّمَّآ أَنزَلْنَآ إِلَيْكَ فَسْـَٔلِ ٱلَّذِينَ يَقْرَءُونَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ مِن قَبْلِكَ ۚ لَقَدْ جَآءَكَ ٱلْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكَ فَلَا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلْمُمْتَرِينَ ﴿94﴾
So if you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) are in doubt concerning that which We have revealed unto you, [i.e. that your name is written in the Taurât (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)], then ask those who are reading the Book [the Taurât (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] before you. Verily, the truth has come to you from your Lord. So be not of those who doubt (it).
فَإِن fa-in So if
كُنتَ kunta you are
فِى in
شَكٍّۢ shakkin doubt
مِّمَّآ mimmā of what
أَنزَلْنَآ anzalnā We have revealed
إِلَيْكَ ilayka to you
فَسْـَٔلِ fasali then ask
ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who
يَقْرَءُونَ yaqraūna (have been) reading
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ l-kitāba the Book
مِن min before you
قَبْلِكَ ۚ qablika before you
لَقَدْ laqad Verily
جَآءَكَ jāaka has come to you
ٱلْحَقُّ l-ḥaqu the truth
مِن min from
رَّبِّكَ rabbika your Lord
فَلَا falā so (do) not
تَكُونَنَّ takūnanna be
مِنَ mina among
ٱلْمُمْتَرِينَ l-mum'tarīna the doubters

(Ayah 94) {فَاِنْ كُنْتَ فِيْ شَكٍّ مِّمَّاۤ اَنْزَلْنَاۤ اِلَيْكَ …:} The main subject of this Surah is the proof of the Prophethood of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and the refutation of the doubts of the opponents. Here, at the end of the Surah, attention is again directed to the main subject. Since the polytheists of Arabia were unlettered and devoid of knowledge of the heavenly books, they were told that if you have any doubt and do not have knowledge yourself, then ask those Jewish scholars who possess the heavenly knowledge of the Torah and so on. Among them, those who are fair-minded and fear Allah will acknowledge that the Qur’an is indeed a heavenly book and Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the true Messenger of Allah, because in their books, there are glad tidings about you (peace be upon him) in many places and your signs have been described. In short! This address is to you (peace be upon him), but the purpose is to draw the attention of the polytheists of Arabia, otherwise, the question of you having any doubt about your Prophethood does not arise at all. It should also be kept in mind that sometimes a statement is made as a supposition or assumption; it does not mean that it is actually so, i.e., if we suppose that you have any doubt, then ask the People of the Book, in their books your clear mention is present, so what doubt remains? This is just like when Allah, the Exalted, will ask Isa (peace be upon him): Did you say to the people to take me and my mother as gods? So, in his detailed statement, he will also say: «{ اِنْ كُنْتُ قُلْتُهٗ فَقَدْ عَلِمْتَهٗ [ المائدۃ : ۱۱۶ ] That is, suppose I had said this, then O Allah! It could not have been hidden from You. The meaning is clear that I never said this. Similarly, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) neither had any doubt nor did he need to ask any People of the Book. Another explanation is that here in {’’ كُنْتَ فِيْ شَكٍّ ‘‘} every human being is addressed directly, because this book has been revealed for the guidance of everyone.
