Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
16. 1. That is, one who is lying on the ground due to poverty and destitution, who does not even have a home; the meaning is that freeing a neck, feeding a hungry relative, this is entering the difficult pass through which a person, by being saved from Hell, reaches Paradise. Sponsoring an orphan is already a deed of great reward, but if he is also a relative, then the reward for his sponsorship is doubled: one for charity, the other for maintaining family ties. Similarly, the great virtue of freeing a slave has been mentioned in the hadiths. Nowadays, one form of this could be to relieve someone of the burden of debt; this too is a kind of freeing a neck.
