سُوْرَةُ التَّوْبَةِ
Surah At-Tawba (9) — Ayah 81
فَرِحَ ٱلْمُخَلَّفُونَ بِمَقْعَدِهِمْ خِلَـٰفَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ وَكَرِهُوٓا۟ أَن يُجَـٰهِدُوا۟ بِأَمْوَٰلِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَقَالُوا۟ لَا تَنفِرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْحَرِّ ۗ قُلْ نَارُ جَهَنَّمَ أَشَدُّ حَرًّا ۚ لَّوْ كَانُوا۟ يَفْقَهُونَ ﴿81﴾
Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
Those who stayed away (from Tabuk expedition) rejoiced in their staying behind the Messenger of Allâh; they hated to strive and fight with their properties and their lives in the Cause of Allâh, and they said: "March not forth in the heat." Say: "The Fire of Hell is more intense in heat"; if only they could understand!

81. 1 This is a mention of the hypocrites who did not go to Tabuk and, by presenting false excuses, obtained permission. The meaning of خلاف is behind or opposition. That is, after the departure of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, they remained sitting in Madinah behind you or in opposition to you.
81. 2 That is, if they had known that, compared to the heat of the fire of Hell, the heat of this world has no significance, they would never have stayed behind. It is mentioned in the hadith that the fire of this world is the seventieth part of the fire of Hell. That is, the intensity of the fire of Hell is sixty-nine parts greater than the fire of this world (Sahih Bukhari).
