سُوْرَةُ التَّوْبَةِ
Surah At-Tawba (9) — Ayah 55
فَلَا تُعْجِبْكَ أَمْوَٰلُهُمْ وَلَآ أَوْلَـٰدُهُمْ ۚ إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ لِيُعَذِّبَهُم بِهَا فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَتَزْهَقَ أَنفُسُهُمْ وَهُمْ كَـٰفِرُونَ ﴿55﴾
Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
So let not their wealth nor their children amaze you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم); in reality Allâh’s Plan is to punish them with these things in the life of this world, and that their souls shall depart (die) while they are disbelievers.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. 55. 1. Therefore, this is as a test, as it is said: "And many kinds of people whom We have provided with the adornments of the life of this world, so that We may test them—do We hasten for them good things in this world by giving them wealth and sons? (No), but they do not understand."
55. 2. Imam Ibn Kathir and Imam Ibn Jarir Tabari have taken this to mean Zakat and spending in the way of Allah. That is, the Zakat and charity given by these hypocrites (which they give to appear as Muslims) are accepted in this world so that in this way, their financial punishment is also given to them in this world.
55. 3. However, their death will come in a state of disbelief. Because they are not ready to sincerely accept the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and they persist and insist on their disbelief and hypocrisy.
