سُوْرَةُ التَّوْبَةِ
Surah At-Tawba (9) — Ayah 23
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَتَّخِذُوٓا۟ ءَابَآءَكُمْ وَإِخْوَٰنَكُمْ أَوْلِيَآءَ إِنِ ٱسْتَحَبُّوا۟ ٱلْكُفْرَ عَلَى ٱلْإِيمَـٰنِ ۚ وَمَن يَتَوَلَّهُم مِّنكُمْ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ ﴿23﴾

O you who believe! Take not as Auliyâ’ (supporters and helpers) your fathers and your brothers if they prefer disbelief to Belief. And whoever of you does so, then he is one of the Zâlimûn (wrong-doers).

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf

23. 1. This is the same subject that has been mentioned in several places in the Noble Quran (since its importance is clear, it has been mentioned here as well), that is, in jihad and migration, the love for your fathers, brothers, etc. should not become an obstacle for you, because they are still disbelievers, so they cannot be your friends at all; rather, they are your enemies. If you maintain a relationship of love with them, then remember, you will be considered wrongdoers.
