Surah Al-Mutaffifin (83) — Ayah 3

وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَو وَّزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ ﴿3﴾
And when they have to give by measure or weight to (other) men, give less than due.
وَإِذَا wa-idhā But when
كَالُوهُمْ kālūhum they give by measure (to) them
أَو aw or
وَّزَنُوهُمْ wazanūhum they weigh (for) them
يُخْسِرُونَ yukh'sirūna they give less

That is, keeping separate measures for taking and giving, and thus cheating by reducing in measurement and weight, is a very grave moral disease, the result of which is destruction in religion and the Hereafter. There is a hadith: Whenever a nation reduces in measurement and weight, famine, hard labor, and the oppression of rulers are imposed upon them.
