O Prophet (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم)! Urge the believers to fight. If there are twenty steadfast persons amongst you, they will overcome two hundreds, and if there be a hundred steadfast persons they will overcome a thousand of those who disbelieve, because they (the disbelievers) are people who do not understand.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

65. 1. Taḥrīḍ means to strongly encourage, that is, to instill great enthusiasm and eagerness. Accordingly, before battle, the Prophet ﷺ would encourage the Companions to perform jihad and would mention its virtues. As at the occasion of Badr, when the polytheists appeared on the battlefield with their large numbers and abundant resources, he ﷺ said, "Stand up for entry into such a Paradise whose width is as the heavens and the earth." A Companion, Umair bin Humaam, said, "Its width is as the heavens and the earth?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Yes." At this, he said "Bakh bakh," expressing happiness and hope that he would be among those who enter Paradise. The Prophet ﷺ said, "You are among those who will enter it." So he broke the sheath of his sword, took out some dates and began to eat them, then threw away the remaining dates from his hand and said, "If I remain alive until I finish eating these, it will be a long life." Then he advanced and displayed great bravery, until he attained the bride of martyrdom. (Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim)

65. 2. This is glad tidings for the Muslims that, with your steadfastness, twenty mujahideen who fight will prevail over two hundred, and will prevail over one thousand.
