كَدَأْبِ ءَالِ فِرْعَوْنَ ۙ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَهْلَكْنَـٰهُم بِذُنُوبِهِمْ وَأَغْرَقْنَآ ءَالَ فِرْعَوْنَ ۚ وَكُلٌّ كَانُوا۟ ظَـٰلِمِينَ ﴿54﴾
Similar to the behaviour of the people of Fir‘aun (Pharaoh), and those before them. They belied the Ayât (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of their Lord, so We destroyed them for their sins, and We drowned the people of Fir‘aun (Pharaoh) for they were all Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers).
كَدَأْبِ kadabi Like (the) way
ءَالِ āli (of) people
فِرْعَوْنَ ۙ fir'ʿawna (of) Firaun
وَٱلَّذِينَ wa-alladhīna and those who
مِن min (were) from
قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ qablihim before them
كَذَّبُوا۟ kadhabū They denied
بِـَٔايَـٰتِ biāyāti (the) Signs
رَبِّهِمْ rabbihim (of) their Lord
فَأَهْلَكْنَـٰهُم fa-ahlaknāhum so We destroyed them
بِذُنُوبِهِمْ bidhunūbihim for their sins
وَأَغْرَقْنَآ wa-aghraqnā and We drowned
ءَالَ āla (the) people
فِرْعَوْنَ ۚ fir'ʿawna (of) Firaun
وَكُلٌّۭ wakullun and (they) all
كَانُوا۟ kānū were
ظَـٰلِمِينَ ẓālimīna wrongdoers

54. 1. This is an emphasis on what has been mentioned earlier; however, in this, the aspect of destruction has been added, that they were drowned. Furthermore, it has been clarified that by drowning them, Allah did not wrong them, rather they themselves were wrongdoers to their own souls. Allah does not wrong anyone (وَمَا رَبُّكَ بِظَلَّامٍ لِّـلْعَبِيْدِ) 41. Fussilat:46)
