ٱلَّذِى هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ ﴿3﴾

3. 1. That is, there is an inquiry regarding the great news about which there is disagreement among them. By this great news, some have meant the Noble Quran; the disbelievers used to say different things about it—some called it magic, some soothsaying, some poetry, and some tales of the ancients. According to some, it refers to the establishment of the Day of Judgment and resurrection. There was some disagreement among them about this—some completely denied it, some merely expressed doubt. Some said that both believers and disbelievers were among those who asked; the believers' question was for increased certainty or insight, and the disbelievers' was for denial and mockery.
