وَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلنَّفْسِ ٱللَّوَّامَةِ ﴿2﴾
And I swear by the self-reproaching person (a believer).
وَلَآ walā And nay
أُقْسِمُ uq'simu I swear
بِٱلنَّفْسِ bil-nafsi by the soul
ٱللَّوَّامَةِ l-lawāmati self-accusing

2. 1 That is, he reproaches even for good deeds, asking why he did not do more. And for evil deeds as well, asking why he does not refrain from them? Even in this world, those whose consciences are awakened, their souls reproach them; however, in the Hereafter, everyone's soul will reproach them.
