وَأَنَّا لَمَسْنَا ٱلسَّمَآءَ فَوَجَدْنَـٰهَا مُلِئَتْ حَرَسًا شَدِيدًا وَشُهُبًا ﴿8﴾
‘And we have sought to reach the heaven; but found it filled with stern guards and flaming fires.
وَأَنَّا wa-annā And that we
لَمَسْنَا lamasnā sought to touch
ٱلسَّمَآءَ l-samāa the heaven
فَوَجَدْنَـٰهَا fawajadnāhā but we found it
مُلِئَتْ muli-at filled (with)
حَرَسًۭا ḥarasan guards
شَدِيدًۭا shadīdan severe
وَشُهُبًۭا washuhuban and flaming fires

8. 1. That is, angels guard the heavens so that no one else can overhear anything from the heavens, and these stars fall as flames upon the devils who try to ascend to the heavens.
