وَقَالَ ٱلْمَلَأُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَوْمِهِۦ لَئِنِ ٱتَّبَعْتُمْ شُعَيْبًا إِنَّكُمْ إِذًا لَّخَـٰسِرُونَ ﴿90﴾
The chiefs of those who disbelieved among his people said (to their people): "If you follow Shu‘aib, be sure then you will be the losers!"
وَقَالَ waqāla And said
ٱلْمَلَأُ l-mala-u the chiefs
ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna (of) those who
كَفَرُوا۟ kafarū disbelieved
مِن min among
قَوْمِهِۦ qawmihi his people
لَئِنِ la-ini If
ٱتَّبَعْتُمْ ittabaʿtum you follow
شُعَيْبًا shuʿayban Shuaib
إِنَّكُمْ innakum indeed, you
إِذًۭا idhan then
لَّخَـٰسِرُونَ lakhāsirūna (will be) certainly losers

90. 1. Leaving their ancestral religion and not giving short measure and weight, according to them, was a loss, whereas in both these matters, the benefit was actually theirs. But in the eyes of worldly people, immediate profit (دنیا میں فوراً حاصل ہونے والا نفع) is everything, which they were obtaining by giving short measure and weight; so why would they abandon it for the deferred profit of the Hereafter like the believers?
