Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
23. 1. These are the same words of repentance and seeking forgiveness that Prophet Adam (peace be upon him) learned from Allah, as is explicitly mentioned in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 37 (see the footnote of the mentioned verse). Thus, when Satan committed disobedience to Allah, not only did he persist in it, but he also began to present rational and analogical arguments to justify and prove it. As a result, he was cast out and declared accursed forever. On the other hand, Prophet Adam (peace be upon him) expressed regret and remorse over his mistake and made arrangements for repentance and seeking forgiveness in the presence of Allah. Thus, he became deserving of Allah’s mercy and forgiveness. In this way, both paths have been indicated: the path of Satan and the path of the people of Allah. To commit a sin and then be arrogant about it, insist on it, and pile up arguments to prove it right is the path of Satan. And after committing a sin, to be overwhelmed by the feeling of remorse, to humble oneself in the presence of Allah, and to make arrangements for repentance and seeking forgiveness is the path of the servants of Allah.
