سَآءَ مَثَلًا ٱلْقَوْمُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا وَأَنفُسَهُمْ كَانُوا۟ يَظْلِمُونَ ﴿177﴾
Evil is the parable of the people who rejected Our Ayât (proofs, evidence, verses and signs, etc.), and used to wrong their ownselves.
سَآءَ sāa Evil
مَثَلًا mathalan (as) an example
ٱلْقَوْمُ l-qawmu (are) the people
ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who
كَذَّبُوا۟ kadhabū denied
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا biāyātinā Our Signs
وَأَنفُسَهُمْ wa-anfusahum and themselves
كَانُوا۟ kānū they used to
يَظْلِمُونَ yaẓlimūna wrong

177. 1. The word `mathalan` is a *tamyiz* (accusative of specification). The original phrase would be: 'سَاَءَ مَثَلاً ! (مَثَلُ الْقَوْمِ الَّذِيْنَ كَذَّبُوْا بِاٰيٰتِنَا) 7. Al-A'raf:176)'
