And (remember) when We raised the mountain over them as if it had been a canopy, and they thought that it was going to fall on them. (We said): "Hold firmly to what We have given you [i.e. the Taurât (Torah)], and remember that which is therein (act on its commandments), so that you may fear Allâh and obey Him."

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

171. 1. This is the incident when Musa (Moses) ؑ brought the Torah to them and recited its commands to them, so they, as per their habit, refused and turned away from acting upon them. Upon this, Allah Almighty raised the mountain over them so that it might be dropped upon them and crush them, which made them fearful and they pledged to act upon the Torah. Some say that the incident of the raising of the mountain occurred at their demand, when they said that they would act upon the Torah only when Allah Almighty raised the mountain over them and showed it to them, but the first opinion seems more Sahih, and Allah knows best. Here, the mention is of the mountain in general. But earlier, in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 63 and verse 93, this incident is mentioned in two places. There, its name is explicitly stated as Mount Tur.
