وَلَمَّا سَكَتَ عَن مُّوسَى ٱلْغَضَبُ أَخَذَ ٱلْأَلْوَاحَ ۖ وَفِى نُسْخَتِهَا هُدًى وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِرَبِّهِمْ يَرْهَبُونَ ﴿154﴾
And when the anger of Mûsâ (Moses) was calmed down, he took up the Tablets; and in their inscription was guidance and mercy for those who fear their Lord.
وَلَمَّا walammā And when
سَكَتَ sakata was calmed
عَن ʿan from
مُّوسَى mūsā Musa
ٱلْغَضَبُ l-ghaḍabu the anger
أَخَذَ akhadha he took (up)
ٱلْأَلْوَاحَ ۖ l-alwāḥa the tablets
وَفِى wafī and in
نُسْخَتِهَا nus'khatihā their inscription
هُدًۭى hudan (was) guidance
وَرَحْمَةٌۭ waraḥmatun and mercy
لِّلَّذِينَ lilladhīna for those who
هُمْ hum [they]
لِرَبِّهِمْ lirabbihim of their Lord
يَرْهَبُونَ yarhabūna (are) fearful

154. 1 Here, by "نسخہ" is meant either the original tablets on which the Torah was written, or it refers to the second copy that was prepared by transcribing from the original after the tablets were broken due to being thrown forcefully. However, the first meaning seems more likely, because it is mentioned later that Musa (Moses) (AS) picked up the tablets, which indicates that the tablets were not broken. In any case, the intended meaning is "contents," which has been adopted in the translation.

154. 2 The Torah, like the Noble Quran, has also been described as guidance and mercy for those people who fear Allah, because the real benefit from the heavenly books is obtained only by such people. Other people, since they have closed their ears to hearing the truth and their eyes to seeing the truth, generally remain deprived of this fountain of grace.
