ثُمَّ لَقَطَعْنَا مِنْهُ ٱلْوَتِينَ ﴿46﴾
And then We certainly would have cut off his life artery (aorta),
ثُمَّ thumma Then
لَقَطَعْنَا laqaṭaʿnā certainly We (would) have cut off
مِنْهُ min'hu from him
ٱلْوَتِينَ l-watīna the aorta

46. 1. Keep in mind, this punishment is mentioned specifically in the context of the Prophet ﷺ, the purpose of which is to express his truthfulness. In this, the principle is not stated that whoever falsely claims prophethood, We will immediately subject the false claimant to punishment. Therefore, from this, no false prophet can be considered true merely because he remained safe from divine retribution in this world.
