Surah Al-Mulk (67) — Ayah 27

فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهُ زُلْفَةً سِيٓـَٔتْ وُجُوهُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَقِيلَ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَدَّعُونَ ﴿27﴾
But when they will see it (the torment on the Day of Resurrection) approaching, the faces of those who disbelieve will change and turn black with sadness and in grief and it will be said (to them): "This is (the promise) which you were calling for!"
فَلَمَّا falammā But when
رَأَوْهُ ra-awhu they (will) see it
زُلْفَةًۭ zul'fatan approaching
سِيٓـَٔتْ sīat (will be) distressed
وُجُوهُ wujūhu (the) faces
ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna (of) those who
كَفَرُوا۟ kafarū disbelieved
وَقِيلَ waqīla and it will be said
هَـٰذَا hādhā This
ٱلَّذِى alladhī (is) that which
كُنتُم kuntum you used to
بِهِۦ bihi for it
تَدَّعُونَ taddaʿūna call

27. 1. That is, humiliation and horror and terror will cause their faces to turn pale. This has been described in another place as the blackening of faces. That is, this punishment that you are witnessing is the same which you used to demand to be hastened in the world.
