سُوْرَةُ التَّحْرِيْمِ
Surah At-Tahrim (66) — Ayah 8
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ تُوبُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ تَوْبَةً نَّصُوحًا عَسَىٰ رَبُّكُمْ أَن يُكَفِّرَ عَنكُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتِكُمْ وَيُدْخِلَكُمْ جَنَّـٰتٍ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ يَوْمَ لَا يُخْزِى ٱللَّهُ ٱلنَّبِىَّ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مَعَهُۥ ۖ نُورُهُمْ يَسْعَىٰ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَبِأَيْمَـٰنِهِمْ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَآ أَتْمِمْ لَنَا نُورَنَا وَٱغْفِرْ لَنَآ ۖ إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ ﴿8﴾

O you who believe! Turn to Allâh with sincere repentance! It may be that your Lord will expiate from you your sins, and admit you into Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise) - the Day that Allâh will not disgrace the Prophet (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) and those who believe with him. Their Light will run forward before them and (with their Records - Books of deeds) in their right hands. They will say: "Our Lord! Keep perfect our Light for us [and do not put it off till we cross over the Sirât (a slippery bridge over the Hell) safely] and grant us forgiveness. Verily, You are Able to do all things."

ٱلنَّبِىَّ

وَٱلَّذِينَ

مَعَهُۥ ۖ

نُورُهُمْ

Their light
يَسْعَىٰ

بَيْنَ

and on their right
يَقُولُونَ

رَبَّنَآ

Perfect
لَنَا

for us
نُورَنَا

our light
وَٱغْفِرْ

لَنَآ ۖ

Indeed, You

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf

8. 1. Pure repentance is that: 1. He abandons the sin from which he is repenting, 2. He expresses remorse before Allah, 3. He resolves not to commit it again in the future, 4. If it relates to the rights of people, he compensates the one whose right was usurped, seeks forgiveness from the one he wronged; merely uttering repentance with the tongue holds no meaning.
