12. 1 The purpose of mentioning Maryam (علیہا السلام) is to state that despite living among a corrupt people, Allah honored her with dignity and nobility in this world and the Hereafter, and granted her superiority over all the women of the worlds.

12. 2 By the words of her Lord are meant the divine laws.

12. 3 That is, she was among those people or from a family who were obedient, devoted worshippers, and distinguished in righteousness and obedience. In the hadith, it is stated that the most virtuous women of Paradise are Khadijah, Fatimah, Maryam, and Asiyah, the wife of Pharaoh (may Allah be pleased with them). (Musnad Ahmad) In another hadith, it is said that many men attained perfection, but among women, only Asiyah, the wife of Pharaoh, Maryam bint Imran, and Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (may Allah be pleased with them) attained perfection, and the superiority of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) over women is like the superiority of tharid over all foods. Sahih Bukhari.
