Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
O you who believe (Muslims)! When the call is proclaimed for the Salât (prayer) on Friday (Jumu‘ah prayer), come to the remembrance of Allâh [Jumu‘ah religious talk (Khutbah) and Salât (prayer)] and leave off business (and every other thing). That is better for you if you did but know!

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
9. 1. How should this adhan be given, what are its words? This is not found anywhere in the Quran. However, it is found in hadith, from which it is understood that it is neither possible to understand the Quran nor to act upon it without hadith. Jumu'ah is called so because on this day Allah completed the creation of everything, thus, in a way, all creatures were gathered on this day, or because people gather for prayer, hence it is called so (Fath al-Qadeer). The meaning of فَاَسْعَوْا is not to run, but rather that after the adhan, immediately stop your business and come. Because it is forbidden to come to prayer running, and it is emphasized to come with dignity and tranquility. (Sahih Bukhari) Some people have deduced from ذروا البیع (leave off trade) that Jumu'ah is only obligatory in cities, not on the people of villages. Because business and buying and selling only take place in cities, not in villages. However, firstly, there is no village in the world where buying and selling and business do not take place, so this claim is contrary to reality. Secondly, by trade and business is meant worldly occupations, whatever they may be and of whatever kind. After the adhan of Jumu'ah, they should be abandoned. Are the occupations of the villagers not worldly? Is farming something different from business and worldly occupations?
