Surah Al-An'aam (6) — Ayah 52

وَلَا تَطْرُدِ ٱلَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ رَبَّهُم بِٱلْغَدَوٰةِ وَٱلْعَشِىِّ يُرِيدُونَ وَجْهَهُۥ ۖ مَا عَلَيْكَ مِنْ حِسَابِهِم مِّن شَىْءٍ وَمَا مِنْ حِسَابِكَ عَلَيْهِم مِّن شَىْءٍ فَتَطْرُدَهُمْ فَتَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ ﴿52﴾
And turn not away those who invoke their Lord, morning and afternoon seeking His Face. You are accountable for them in nothing, and they are accountable for you in nothing, that you may turn them away, and thus become of the Zâlimûn (unjust).
وَلَا walā And (do) not
تَطْرُدِ taṭrudi send away
ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who
يَدْعُونَ yadʿūna call
رَبَّهُم rabbahum their Lord
بِٱلْغَدَوٰةِ bil-ghadati in the morning
وَٱلْعَشِىِّ wal-ʿashiyi and the evening
يُرِيدُونَ yurīdūna desiring
وَجْهَهُۥ ۖ wajhahu His Countenance
مَا Not
عَلَيْكَ ʿalayka (is) on you
مِنْ min of
حِسَابِهِم ḥisābihim their account
مِّن min [of]
شَىْءٍۢ shayin anything
وَمَا wamā and not
مِنْ min from
حِسَابِكَ ḥisābika your account
عَلَيْهِم ʿalayhim on them
مِّن min [of]
شَىْءٍۢ shayin anything
فَتَطْرُدَهُمْ fataṭrudahum So were you to send them away
فَتَكُونَ fatakūna then you would be
مِنَ mina of
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ l-ẓālimīna the wrongdoers

52. 1. That is, these helpless and poor Muslims, who with great sincerity call upon their Lord day and night, meaning they worship Him, you (O Muhammad ﷺ) should not distance these poor ones from yourself in response to the polytheists’ taunt or demand that there is always a crowd of the poor and destitute around you—remove them so that we may also sit with you. Do not distance these poor ones from yourself, especially when you are not responsible for their sustenance, and if you do so, it would be an injustice, which does not befit you. The purpose is to teach the Ummah that to consider people without means as insignificant, or to avoid their company and not maintain attachment with them, is the act of the ignorant, not of the people of faith. The people of faith love the people of faith, even if they are poor and destitute.
