Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

45. 1. In this, regarding God-forgetting nations, Allah Almighty states that sometimes We temporarily open the doors of worldly comforts and abundance for such nations, until when they become deeply engrossed in it and begin to boast about their material prosperity and progress, then We suddenly seize them with Our punishment and cut them off from the root. It is also mentioned in a hadith, the Prophet ﷺ said that when you see that Allah Almighty is granting someone the world according to his desires despite his disobedience, then this is istidraj (giving respite). Then he ﷺ recited this very verse. From the verse of the Noble Quran and the hadith of the Prophet ﷺ, it is understood that worldly progress and prosperity are not proof that the individual or nation who attains them is beloved to Allah and that Allah Almighty is pleased with them, as some people think. In fact, some even consider them, by referring to (اَنَّ الْاَرْضَ يَرِثُهَا عِبَادِيَ الصّٰلِحُوْنَ) 21:15 (declaring them as the embodiment and even calling them Allah’s righteous servants), to be so. Thinking and saying this is wrong. The worldly prosperity of misguided nations or individuals is a trial and a respite, not a reward for their disbelief and sins.
