The Cattle · Meccan · Juz 7 · Page 131

They indeed are losers who denied their Meeting with Allâh, until all of a sudden, the Hour (signs of death) is on them, and they say: "Alas for us that we gave no thought to it," while they will bear their burdens on their backs; and evil indeed are the burdens that they will bear!

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

31. 1 The loss and disappointment that will befall those who deny the meeting with Allah, the way they will be remorseful over their shortcomings, and the burden of evil deeds they will carry upon themselves, is depicted in the verse. In فَرَّطْنَا فِیْھَا, the pronoun refers to اَلسَّاعَۃُ, meaning the shortcomings we committed regarding the preparation and affirmation of the Day of Judgment; or it refers to الصَّفْقَۃُ (the transaction), which, although not explicitly mentioned in the wording, is indicated by the context, because loss occurs in a transaction. The intended transaction is the one in which they purchased disbelief in exchange for faith, meaning by making this transaction, we committed a grave shortcoming; or it refers to حیاۃ (life), meaning the shortcomings we committed in our lives by engaging in evil, disbelief, and polytheism.
