سُوْرَةُ الْاَنْعَامِ
Surah Al-An'aam (6) — Ayah 20
ٱلَّذِينَ ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ يَعْرِفُونَهُۥ كَمَا يَعْرِفُونَ أَبْنَآءَهُمُ ۘ ٱلَّذِينَ خَسِرُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ ﴿20﴾

Those to whom We have given the Scripture (Jews and Christians) recognize him (i.e. Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم as a Messenger of Allâh, and they also know that there is no Ilâh (God) but Allâh and Islâm is Allâh’s Religion), as they recognize their own sons. Those who have lost (destroyed) themselves will not believe. (Tafsir At-Tabarî).

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf

In یعرفونہ, the pronoun refers to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, meaning the People of the Book recognize you just as they recognize their own sons, because your attributes were mentioned in their books and, due to these attributes, they were also awaiting the final Prophet. Therefore, those among them who do not believe are in severe loss, because they are denying despite having knowledge. فان کنت لا تدری فتلک مصیبۃ وان کنت تدری فالمصیبۃ اعظم If you do not know, then that is indeed a calamity, but if you do know, then the calamity is even greater.
