وَلَوْلَآ أَن كَتَبَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْجَلَآءَ لَعَذَّبَهُمْ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ وَلَهُمْ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ عَذَابُ ٱلنَّارِ ﴿3﴾
And had it not been that Allâh had decreed exile for them, He would certainly have punished them in this world; and in the Hereafter theirs shall be the torment of the Fire.
وَلَوْلَآ walawlā And if not
أَن an [that]

عَلَيْهِمُ ʿalayhimu for them
ٱلْجَلَآءَ l-jalāa the exile
لَعَذَّبَهُمْ laʿadhabahum certainly He (would) have punished them

وَلَهُمْ walahum and for them
فِى in
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ l-ākhirati the Hereafter
عَذَابُ ʿadhābu (is) a punishment
ٱلنَّارِ l-nāri (of) the Fire

That is, if their exile had not already been decreed in Allah’s destiny, they would have been subjected to a severe punishment in this world, just as later their brethren, another Jewish tribe Banu Qurayzah, were subjected to such a punishment: their young men were killed, others were taken captive, and their wealth was made spoils for the Muslims.
