Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

5. 1 Kutibū, is the passive past tense form; by expressing a future event in the past tense, it has been clarified that its occurrence and realization are as certain as if it has already happened. Thus, it happened exactly so: these polytheists of Makkah were humiliated on the day of Badr—some were killed, some were taken captive, and the Muslims prevailed over them. The dominance of the Muslims was also a great humiliation for them.

5. 2 By this are meant the previous nations who were destroyed for the same opposition.
