Have you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) not seen those (hypocrites) who take as friends a people upon whom is the Wrath of Allâh (i.e. Jews)? They are neither of you (Muslims) nor of them (Jews), and they swear to a lie while they know.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

14. 1. Those upon whom Allah's wrath has descended, according to the explicit statement of the Noble Quran, are the Jews, and the hypocrites who befriend them. These verses were revealed at a time when the hypocrites were also influential in Madinah and the conspiracies of the Jews were at their peak. The Jews had not yet been exiled.
14. 2. That is, these hypocrites are neither Muslims nor, in terms of religion, are they Jews. Then why do they befriend the Jews? Only because enmity towards the Prophet ﷺ and Islam is a common factor between them and the Jews.
14. 3. That is, they swear oaths to convince the Muslims that they are Muslims like them, or that they have no connections with the Jews.
