Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

2. 1. This command regarding ẓihār has been stated: by your saying so, your wife does not become your mother. If, instead of mother, a person likens his wife to the back of his daughter or sister, etc., is this also ẓihār or not? Imam Malik and Imam Abu Hanifah (may Allah have mercy on them) also consider this to be ẓihār, whereas other scholars do not accept it as ẓihār. The first opinion appears to be Sahih. Similarly, there is also a difference of opinion regarding whether, instead of mentioning the back, someone says, "You are like my mother," without mentioning the back. The scholars say that if he utters these words with the intention of ẓihār, then it will be ẓihār; otherwise, it will not. Imam Abu Hanifah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that if he likens her to such a body part which is permissible to look at, then this will not be ẓihār. Imam Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) also says that ẓihār will only occur by saying "like the back." Fath al-Qadeer.

2. 2. That is why He has made expiation (kaffarah) a means for the pardon of this denounced and false statement.
